Solid Roof Conservatories

Just like double glazed glass roofs, solid roofs can be installed on newly built conservatories in a matter of days. By opting for a solid roof, rather than a glass one, you will improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of a conservatory when compared to one that has an entirely glass roof. A solid roof is a great choice for conservatories. If you already have the external space for a new conservatory we can transform it by building a new structure with a solid tiled roof that has a choice of styles and colours to match your existing roof. Both our solid roofs can be built in many conservatory styles including: Edwardian, Victorian and Lean-To double glazed conservatories.

    • Most well built new modern double glazed conservatories are designed to last, so once you’ve bought one you shouldn’t have to do it again making it imperative that you get the dream design first time out. During the design process we will take you through every single available option and at some point we can discuss solid roofs, as the roof shares equal importance to just about anything else. It’s not just the fact that it is so good at supplying constant thermal efficiency that will likely appeal, but you will also be impressed by the flexibility that it can be incorporated into the design.

    • The double-ended Edwardian orangery configuration is a particularly favourable formation for the solid roof should you wish to choose this outstanding roofing solution for what is a stunning structure. Few other roofing alternatives can match it for keeping the inside of the orangery cosy and warm, especially if you decide to include double glazed centre pivot windows and mounted spotlights in the roof, additional investments that will pay off long-term.

A solid roof is an exciting choice of living space...

    • We call it a solid roof for a reason. It’s because it has a solid feel that will spread to the entire interior of your conservatory so that it forever feels energy efficient and adds huge amounts of warmth. Because of its solid insulated design some natural light will be lost but you can still expect to feel bright and spacious due to the windows and doors.

    • For a double glazed conservatory to be fully functional throughout the year it needs to be properly insulated so that whenever you walk inside its glamorous confines it feels cosy. To get that feeling every time you utilise the space make sure that you ask us to fit a solid roof to the top of the design as it contains a rigid insulation board and insulated plywood.

    • For the solid roof to be taken seriously as an alternative to a traditional roofing system it was vital that it exhibited many of its aesthetic traits. Much time and effort has been dedicated towards its appearance so that it exceeds the look of other alternative roofing systems, like a flat roof for example.

    • We prefabricate the solid roof so that the installation process can be conducted quickly and efficiently, meaning minimum disruption is caused at your home. Though simple to fit, it is highly effective once in position.

For those looking to play it safe, with a preference for an internal finish that has endured the passage of time, then painted plasterboard is most definitely the best option. During the winter months you will really notice it come to the fore, especially if you also have centre pivot timber roof window included to give off that ‘cabin-style’ effect, and provide added light through double glazed Velux windows and carefully positioned recessed LED spotlights.

Gain more light with our roof windows...

We’re not the type of company to hide away from the fact that an element of natural sunlight will be lost inside a new conservatory if you select a solid roof over a double glazed one. You shouldn’t let it put you off the idea of adding a solid roof as you can always include one or two sloping roof windows in the solid roof to give the sun a pathway back inside the structure and retain the illusion of extra space. You can also utilise them during the hotter periods of the year as a method of ventilation.

    Lightweight Tile

There’s absolutely no question that traditional slate looks spectacularly good when properly and regularly maintained, but when it reaches the point where it becomes broken and cracked you have a hard job keeping on top of it. Our lightweight slate shares all the aesthetic hallmarks of traditional slate and is better equipped to deal with old father time. Colours include stone, plum, pewter grey, brick red and black.

    Lightweight Tile

Erecting a new effective conservatory roof is something you should do as quickly as possible which is why our lightweight tiles will appeal to folk keen to have a new solid roof conservatory built as soon as possible. When it comes to choosing a finish you have the option of green, red, charcoal, ebony and umber.

    Planning permission & building regulations...

Solid Roof Conservatories are in the eyes of the law an extension, so whether you like it or not Building Regulations Approval is required, whether you are building a new one, or hoping to have have a glass roof replaced with a solid one. In the latter case, if your conservatory was built under planning permission, you will need to re-apply for planning as well as Building Regulatory Approval, as you are changing from an exempt structure (i.e. a conservatory with a glass roof) to a non-exempt extension. You'll also only be able to do this if your existing foundations and double glazed walls and doors are a) deep enough and b) strong enough to take the weight of a new solid roof.

Hazlemere can take care of all Planning Permission and Building Regulations for new solid roof conservatories.
