Secondary Glazing

Horizontal sliding secondary glazing is designed to reduce noise and heat loss from your home. A simple installation into the existing window reveal or frame will provide virtually maintenance free service for many years. Hazlemere’s horizontal sliders are available in 2, 3, 4 or 5 panel configurations that slide on a track system. Sliding on nylon skids the windows are fitted with spring loaded aluminium catches that engage on the inside of the outer frame jambs for improved security. The sliding panels interlock at meeting styles to provide draught free seals. A three track option is also available if you want to add a fly screen to keep out the summer bugs.

The horizontal sliders are made to measure and panels can be manufactured in sizes starting from a minimum width 400mm up to 4900mm wide with a 1980 maximum height. Standard colours white, brown and silver are available with a colour range of over 200 RAL colours.

A natural choice for those wishing to add secondary glazing to traditional box sash windows this popular style of secondary glazing is also good for windows that feature horizontal bars. The panels of vertical sliding secondary glazing operate in the same way as vertical sliding sash windows and provide easy access to existing windows.

The vertical sliders are balanced, hung on spiral spring balances hidden in the jambs. These springs are adjusted to suit the weight of the panels, which are held closed with a Fitch fastener in the middle of the transom bar.

Tilt Back Slider

As with the balanced vertical sliders the Hazlemere Tilt Back Slider is a good choice for use with sliding sash windows or windows with horizontal bars. They also use spring balances adjusted to panel weight and feature the same Fitch fastener in the centre of the transom. They do however have the added benefit of a spring loaded catch in the panel corner that allows each panel to tilt back individually for easy cleaning and access to the prime window for maintenance or decoration purposes.

Hazlemere offer a choice of side hinged secondary glazing, either with friction hinges or butt hinges. Butt hinges enable a large clear opening so are popular for those customers wanting easy access for maintenance and the cleaning of existing windows. This style can also be important if a means of escape is required as the side hinged panel can be fully opened. This option is available for either a single or a double panelled unit and can be single or double hinged. Fitch catches are used to secure the panels in place, with shoot bolts on the slave panel of a double unit to secure it in position.

Side hinged secondary glazing with friction hinges are a single pane featuring stainless steel hinges that hold the casement in the desired position, to approximately 65 degrees. They also feature a white Fitch catch. These units can be specified as top hung if desired.

Lift out secondary glazing (also known as clip in / clip out secondary glazing) is also used to improve thermal efficiency of existing windows or reduce external noise. Lift out units are available in the economy odd leg, luxury subframe systems and can be combined with side (or butt) hinged units.

Hazlemere Windows can supply lift out secondary glazing to fit between 300mm to 1200mm wide and from 300mm to 1600mm high. The panel that is made from a single pane of glass can be easily removed using the full length finger rail at the bottom of the window, handy for allowing cleaning of the existing windows. A very popular use for this clip in, clip out system is to have a flyscreen panel, made from the same high quality frame as the glass unit but featuring a fine mesh panel, which can be swapped in for the glass panel during the summer months when insects can become a nuisance.

A single glazed until that cannot be removed, the fixed secondary glazing Hazlemere supply and install can be manufactured in sizes from 300mm to 1200mm wide and between 300mm to 1600mm high. If safety glass is used, be it 6mm toughened glass or 6mm laminated glass, fixed secondary glazed units can be supplied up to 1500mm wide and 2600mm high. Standard colours can be chosen from white, brown and silver but over 200 RAL colour options are available.
